Chris Shinn wrote this song originally for his solo record.
Chris Shinn: I wrote that song when I was about 18 per going to 19 when I first moved out to L.A. Unified Theory decided to pull out of my past and kind of unified it. The song itself is about a bunch of things, things change meaning the older I get I guess the good songs tend to that. Not dead is about a very scary experience for me that was drug induced, it was an immature thing, I was 18 or so, and made a big mistake. It's one of those things where you reach a point in life where you realize that you're not dead, that you are alive and with that confusion. In a sense of complete terror and beauty I realized I wasn't dead you know?
Lyrics:
Something
tells me
That
a drop of your wine
Is
sweeter than mine
Someone
scared me
Into
opening my mind
And
drank the poisonous wine
I know
I'm not dead
Oh
God, I'm not dead
Oh
God, I'm not dead yet
Something
tells me that your cigarette smoke
Will
not make me choke
Something
scared me
And
I haven't let go
I
must face this alone
I know
I'm not dead
Oh
God no I'm not dead
Oh
God, I know I'm not dead yet
The
more I believe
The
less I enjoy this life
The
less I need anyone
The
more I need you
The
more I need you
