Hot New Artist: Queens Of The Stone Age (Interscope)
It’s very melodic, but heavy. They stand out in a category of their own. A completely original sound and I love the production.

Hot Single: The Deftones "Change (In A House Of Flies)" (Maverick)
Out of all the heavy bands this is one of the best tracks I have heard recently. It sounds heavy and thick but you can hear that the lead vocalist can actually sing

Hot CD: The Legendary Marvin Pontiac Greatest Hits (Strange & Beautiful Music)
I discovered the late Marvin Pontiac’s music through a compilation record Eliot Lurie put out this spring on his Strange & Beautiful Music label. It’s really out there. Also, I still listen to a lot of Bjork. I love how she’s forever trying new things.
Her music is what I would expect to hear on another planet.

Hot Local Club: Largo (Los Angeles)
I love Largo on Friday nights because you never know who’s going to show up and jam. You can usually catch Jon Brion there, and even if nobody else shows up to jam with him watching Brion alone is inspirational. It’s a pleasure to go to a
club where people are actually listening to the music.

Hot Unsigned Band: Gus
Gus was signed to Almo Sounds and everything went wrong. Now he is available again and some smart label should snap him up. Gus crafts songs in the vein of Elliot Smith. He plays Largo a lot.

Hot Producer: Daniel Lanois
I’ve studied Daniel Lanois’ work and am convinced that each record he’s made has been sonically superior to everything else. There’s a quality control that goes through him, and you know that whether it’s something you would normally listen
to or not, it will be a great sounding record. He’s also one of my favorite guitar players as well.

Hot Video: Supergrass "Pumping On Your Stereo"
I love the new Supergrass video. I saw it in Canada on MuchMusic. The characters look like cartoons.
