Music

Current albums you like?
Bjork: Homogenic
Rage Against the Machine: The Battle of Los Angeles
Built to Spill: Perfect from Now On
Remy Zero: Villa Elaine
The Flaming Lips: The Soft Bulletin

On Homogenic: "It rocks, it's just such an amazing record. It was really different from anything I was listening to. Coming from retro-rock land, listening to Flaming Lips and Built to Spill and Led Zeppelin and Neil Young, Bjork stands out on her own. She has an amazing sense of melody. And her voice, she's an angel. She's so fucking sexy too and that doesn't hurt."

On The Battle of Los Angeles: "They stepped out on that one."

Classic albums you like?
Bob Dylan: Bringing It All Back Home
Led Zeppelin: Led Zeppelin I
Joan Armatrading: Whatever's for Us
The Beatles: Abbey Road
The Beatles: Let It Be
Neil Young: After the Gold Rush

On Bringing It All Back Home: "With Bob, it always comes back to the lyrics. He's playing blues chords and country chords but the lyrics are so nonsensical. If you just read his lyrics they don't make any sense, but you hear it in music and you feel like he's making some kind of statement at least. It made you realize that whatever you write, any lyric is OK. It's the power of music that's going to support it."

On Led Zeppelin I: "How fuckin' ballsy is the first song on the first record from Led Zeppelin? "Good Times Bad
Times" - it's just a monster, I love that."

Soundtracks you like?
Grease

Favorite record store?
Virgin Megastore

Your biggest musical influences?
James Jamerson
Paul McCartney
The Beatles
John Bonham
Elvin Jones

On James Jamerson: "His sense of rhythm was so fresh and new for that time. Everybody was listening to rockabilly music and playing rockabilly blues chords and singing rock and roll lyrics over Elvis Presley. He brought the whole jazz, funk, atypical rhythm notion to rock and soul."

Best concert you ever saw?
Rage Against the Machine at the Glastonbury Festival in 1995. I was in a band, Blind Melon, and we opened up an act in front of Rage Against the Machine. It was outside and the crowd was between 50-80,000 people
and they were all jumping up and down at the same time. It literally moved the stage like an earthquake. It was intense.

First concert you ever saw?
Bruce Springsteen in Mississippi when I was 14 years old.

Performance that stands out for you?
The Key Club show we played at the Album Network show. We were thrown on stage, we didn't have a sound check and none of the monitors worked. My bass cabinet wasn't plugged in. It was like "1, 2, 3, 4!" and nothing! We were like, "Holy fuck!" And we were playing in front of radio programmers!

Moment in studio that stands out for you?
When I layered the baritones on"Passive." I play baritone horn and when I heard how massive it sounded when it was like eight tracks deep.

Books

Books you like?
Gabriel Garcia Marquez: One
Hundred Years of Solitude
John Steinbeck: Of Mice and Men
Henry Miller: Sexus (RosyCrucifixion, Book One)

On One Hundred Years of Solitude: "It's just so lush in description, you felt like you knew the family. By the time the book was over, you felt like you just followed four generations of family. When you put down the book, you missed the family. You wanted to know what happened after that. That book really sucked you in and made it personal. Gabriel is an amazing writer."

Magazines you like?
Maxim

Comic book you like?

Film

Movies you like?
My Dinner with Andre
The Matrix
Star Wars
Orphans
Birdy
Boogie Nights

On My Dinner with Andre: "Great movie. The whole movie is dialogue and it really keeps you interested. Most dialogue
films are chick films, and not much shit is blowing up. But this was just the two of them sitting at dinner and they just talk
about what it means to be an artist, what keeps you pushing forward and if you're conforming as a human or not. I guess I
ask myself those same questions, so it just sucked me in."

On The Matrix: "Phenomemal!"

On Star Wars: "Outside of Jar Jar Binks, the movie was great."

On Orphans: "The movie is sooo good."

On Birdy: "I like those weird kind of moody things that Matthew Modine has been in."
